Celia Forestal Smith
Celia is a full time artist, tutor and artistic director for her arts organisation Elemental Community Arts. She has a Creative Arts degree Nottingham University, an Advanced Diploma in Painting from Central School of Art (London), a Masters in Fine Art from Gray’s School of Art, Robert Gordon University (Aberdeen, Scotland) and a Further Education and Adults Teaching Certificate..
Celia’s passion and joy are creating art and teaching art. Exhibiting and teaching for many years, Celia’s work ranges from graphic illustration to the highly abstract, capturing the spontaneous and intuitive nature of living in the moment – a distinctive style of expressive freedom. Her art is enriched with a deep appreciation for nature, people and landscapes, saying, “observational drawing and painting is the most effective and powerful way of deeply connecting to nature. It allows a process of slowing down, of appreciation and awe. It is soul nourishment”.
Celia lives in the Royal burgh and market town of Forres, Morayshire, North Scotland with her husband and two children. She works in her studio, exhibits widely and teaches individuals and groups in local venues, one being the Moray Art Centre, a purpose built highly acclaimed and award winning ecological art centre built in the grounds of the well-known spiritual community, the Findhorn Foundation..
“Creation is dominated by three absolutely different factors: First, nature, which works upon us by its laws: second, the artist, who creates a spiritual contact with nature and his materials: third, the medium of expression through which the artist translates his inner world.” A favorite quote by Hans Hofmann.
